Hi, I am actually in tokyo now visiting for the holidays. Do you have any recommendations for where I can buy some japanese art from local artists. Any specific times and locations where artists sell their work?

thanks

Those are some great suggestions. I hope people will begin buying are more for those reasons, rather than viewing them solely as investments. Happy Holidays!

I like Geisai and found two of our artists there--that seems to work best for us. Will fo to Design Exposition at Tokyo Midtown soon, not so much to find new artists as much as to see beautiful works.
I applaud these other efforts-it gets people interested in art and artists and they are very accessible, unlike some galleries.

Do you ever make it out to DesignFesta out in Odaiba? I usually go. It reminds me that young Japanese people are absolutely motivated to express themselves artistically - in fact they are very motivated to do so - but don't seem to have too many forums accessible to them (?) Or am I not finding them? A shame really because DesignFesta is quite popular and well-known - it's good for what it is but I'd love to see more such events that cover a greater range of Japanese artists...something in between an art fair and a museum exhibition (NACT's yearly Artists' File exhibit is also one of my faves but very different from DesignFesta, or say the Artbeat/Superdeluxe events...) Thoughts?
