Summer Season Begins In The Japanese Art World
Posted by T.A.G. in What I'm Thinkin Bout on July 15th, 2009
So bloody hot here now. And many Japanese shops do not turn up the air conditioning so there is literally no place to escape. Art Galleries are the same. With increased expenses, many don’t even turn on all of the lights, and they flick on the lights when a customer walks in.
We go to our summer hours now with a lot of travel to see our artists and find some new works. Basically now we are open by appointment, but will have two open houses on August 16 and August 30 in the afternoon and then will open a new show with works like these from young Japanese artists in early September.

New Works from Ono Kouseki

We are very fortunate to have made contact with Ono Kouseki who was a top three finalists in the Shiseido Egg Competition. He works with several galleries and has decided to let us represent him here in Tokyo so we are able to get some of his best works. We have three large works in the gallery now which he made last year and we showed them on opening night.
Last week, he also brought us two smaller works–they are good examples of his new techniques–he just finished them this month. We have never had so many of his works in the gallery, so please come by and you can have your pick.

Hitoshi
Yep, it’s me and Hitoshi and I was so happy that Atsushi Takahashi did our portraits. I love them–although mine looks kind of old to me–at least it’s slim. Hitoshi looks good too.
Atsushi has agreed to do some more too. If you want Atsushi to do your portrait, just bring us a photo of your face-or your kids-or pet-or spouse–and we will take it from there.

We had an amazing 4th anniversary party last week–it lasted until 5 AM at the home of one of our friends and collectors. Five artists came also including Atsushi Takahashi who brought us portraits of me and Hitoshi. I think they are so cute and adorable and you can see them in the gallery now.

He can do your portrait too -or one of your loved ones. Just bring a picture in this weekend.
